Mercy Ministries

Isaiah Project
Jesus makes it quite clear that as we await his return, we are to help the poor and hungry. And we are to do so without making any distinction about "deserving poor" or "undeserving poor". If someone is in need, all Christians are told to help out. And so Isaiah Project is HCLC's organized effort to give you the opportunity to help out. We've identified several key locations where individuals and families are in need. On the second Sunday of each month we prepare and deliver 80 hot meals. Local groups or individuals can volunteer to provide the food and/or help distribute it. Contact Karen Aschbacher to learn more.

Meals Support Ministry / Community Outreach
In addition to the monthly, focused ministry to a very specific at risk population (Isaiah Project), HCLC also is ready to provide meal support for specific needs as they arise. Once again, we believe this is a ministry which is not optional, but is part and parcel of the Christian life.

In addition to overseeing this ministry, Linda Marsala is also our main point of contact with the broad variety of community organizations that do good works in and around Central New Jersey. We believe that every opportunity we "stumble upon" is a suggestion from God to which we can respond.

Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML)
"There is no question the church is behind you because in so many ways you are ahead of the church." With those words, a Lutheran historian applauded the progress of the LWML since its founding in 1942. Our own Carol Beismann works to organize monthly activities so that the faithful women of HCLC are active and engaged in missionary work. We encourage all women to get involved.

Grocery Bags / Squeezable Jelly
Sometimes it's the little things that count, especially when they are added to the little things done by many others. Each month Holy Cross gathers squeezable bottles of Jelly to help supply groceries to local families to cannot afford to make budget. These bottles can simply be left on the small shelves next to the HCLC entrance. Make it a habit, each time you shop, to pick up one extra item - squeezable jelly - and drop it off. Your small gift goes a long way. If you want more information, contact Judy Berkeyheiser.

Ruth Ministry
There are two "faces" to a well-developed Mercy ministry in the church. As you can see from the ministries listed above, one face looks outward to help those in need whose names might not even be known to us. However the other face looks inward to see the needs of those in our midst. Ruth Ministry is our way of responding to the needs of our own members and friends who find themselves in need of immediate assistance of any kind. This can include help with basics, pastoral counselling, or just the loving presence of someone to talk to. Contact Heidi Brennan. All requests for assistance are treated with the utmost confidentiality.

Online Connections Portal (Web Forum)
It isn't always possible to get out of the house at the times when things are scheduled. Our busy lives sometimes leave us over-committed or just exhausted. But we should still be able to keep in contact with one another to communicate opportunities to show God's mercy to others. Our Web Forum is a place where you can either inform others about upcoming Mercy opportunities or learn about them yourself. You won't be able to add information there, however, unless you "register". Click here to see a video which guides you through the registration process.
